CJSTは、日本におけるジュエリー表現文化の活性化、発展、普及を目指し、さまざまなプロジェクトを企画・運営しているアーティストコレクティブです。「芸術の歴史に残るムーブメントを起こす」ことを目標に、アーティストの寺嶋孝佳が同志を集め、2019年より活動を開始しました。
コンテンポラリージュエリーは、戦後の西洋を中心に、従来のジュエリーが持っていた共通認識や常識から「ジュエリーを解放する」動きとして広まりました。素材、形状、目的、機能、概念を、作家やデザイナーの視点によって拡張し続けることで、コンテンポラリージュエリーは一つの表現分野として成熟してきました。
現在もなお、新しいジュエリーのあり方を模索する動きは世界各地で続いていますが、CJSTでは、その先にある「解放されたジュエリーで何ができるのか」という視点から、この分野の可能性と面白さについて議論を続けています。
ジュエリーを単なる装飾品や工芸品としてではなく、身体、社会、文化、歴史、制度などを結びつける関係性の起点となる、特有の表現形式として捉えること。身につけること、鑑賞すること、制作すること、人と出会うことを横断しながら、ジュエリーをきっかけに新たな対話や価値観を生み出していくこと。それがCJSTの活動の核にあります。
CJSTは、ジュエリーという領域を通して、異なる分野、人々、地域、文化をつなぐ「時代のハブ」となることを目指しています。そして、日本独自の文化や視点を生かしながら、国内外へ向けた《4プロジェクト》を展開し、新しいジュエリー文化の可能性を提示し続けています。

【沿革】
2019年5月
ドイツで開催されているコンテンポラリージュエリーに特化した国際シンポジウム「Schmucksymposium」に寺嶋孝佳が参加したことをきっかけに、日本国内の問題に焦点を当てたCJSTの構想を練り始める。
2019年10月
同志であるアーティストの小嶋崇嗣を代表に「コンテンポラリージュエリーシンポジウム東京」を設立。
ジュエリー作家の牧瑛里子の協力を得て第1回目のシンポジウムプロジェクトを計画。2020年春の開催を予定していたが、コロナパンデミックの影響で延期に。
2021年2月
若手作家を対象としたアーティスト紹介プロジェクトをInstagramで開始。
2021年5月
第1回シンポジウムプロジェクト「Contemporary Jewellery Symposium Tokyo 2021」オンライン開催。
2022年5月
キュレーターの田中雅子氏に協力を依頼し、美術館ジュエリー作品寄贈プロジェクトを開始。
2022年9月
「コンテンポラリージュエリー展“ペンダント”」を東京のレンタルスペースにて初開催。
2023年3月
ドイツ・ミュンヘンジュエリーウィークに初参加。「コンテンポラリージュエリー展“ペンダント”」を開催。
2023年5月
ポーランド・レグニッツァのジュエリーフェスティバルに初参加。
2023年8月

CJST is an artist collective that plans and organizes various projects aimed at revitalizing, developing, and expanding jewelry culture in Japan. Founded in 2019 by the artist Takayoshi Terajima together with like-minded collaborators, CJST was established with the goal of creating a movement that will remain in the history of art.
Contemporary jewellery emerged primarily in the postwar West as a movement to “liberate jewellery” from the conventions and assumptions traditionally associated with it. By continually expanding its materials, forms, purposes, functions, and concepts through the perspectives of artists and designers, contemporary jewellery has matured into a distinct field of artistic expression.
The search for new possibilities in jewellery continues around the world today. At CJST, however, we take this discussion a step further by asking: “What can we do with jewellery once it has been liberated?” From this perspective, we continue to explore and discuss the possibilities and potential of contemporary jewellery.
Rather than viewing jewelry merely as decoration or craft, we understand it as a unique form of expression capable of connecting the body, society, culture, history, and social systems. By crossing the boundaries between wearing, viewing, making, and encountering others, CJST seeks to generate new dialogues and values through jewelry itself. This approach forms the core of our activities.
Through the field of jewelry, CJST aims to become a “hub of the era” that connects different disciplines, people, regions, and cultures. By incorporating perspectives rooted in Japanese culture and society, we continue to develop and present our 4 core projects both within Japan and internationally, proposing new possibilities for jewelry culture.
